Science Courses

  • PHYSICAL SCIENCE
This course will cover general principles of chemistry and physics. The topics covered may include scientific method, measurement, particulate nature of matter, energy, forces and motion, waves, sound, light, electricity, magnetism, earch and space science. Students will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the physical environment and be able to apply scientific laws and principles to observatios of the world around them. The content of the physical science course is based upon the recommendation of the Next Generation Science Standards.

    GENERAL BIOLOGY
This course was previously identified as Biology I and is based on the Next Generation Life Science Standards. There is a strong emphasis on inquiry-based learning of life science phenomena. This is designed to promote student discussion and the exchange of ideas such as scientists as they collaborate and work. The course includes principles of scientific investigations, structures and functions of organisms ranging from the small to large scale, ecosystems, genetics and heredity, and biological evolution. Students will be expected to complete both laboratory and classroom work.

    BIOLOGY II
This course is an extension of General Biology. Topics will be studied in greater depth with a focus on cytology, ecology, zoology, botany and evolution. Students will be expected to complete both laboratory and classroom work.

    GENERAL CHEMISTRY
General Chemistry is the branch of science that deals with matter, the changes that matter can undergo and the relationships that describe these changes.  Topics in this course include measurement, the particulate nature of matter, chemical formulas and equations, bonding, molecular structure, quantitative relationships and quantum theory.  Students will be expected to complete both classroom and laboratory work related to these topics. Chemistry is strongly recommended for the college bound student. A lab fee may be charged.
