The Sherrard School District has been chosen as one of 170 districts state-wide to participate in the Teacher Vacancy Grant Pilot Program, a three-year initiative aimed at addressing the nationwide teacher shortage.
Third grade Sherrard Elementary student Abe Leingang surprised his teacher, Mrs. Brown, with a heartfelt gesture during the home volleyball game last week - a crocheted bracelet he made himself.
“Thanks to a partnership with the Mercer County Mental Health Action Program, we’ve expanded and refreshed our resource directory to include more agencies from Rock Island and surrounding counties.
“Grandparents are such a big part of our students' lives, so we wanted to give back to them,” said Johnson. “It was great to see so many families coming together—multiple grandparents, both sides."

Last summer, the ash tree in front of Matherville Intermediate had to be removed due to ash borer. The longstanding tree was planted as a memorial to Lynda Adams Bender by the class of 1969, dated October 1989.
"I am very excited with this new addition and the updates to the pavilion. All the students, alumni and staff involved worked hard, and they’re doing wonderful things to impact our school and community,” said Lisa Emendorfer, Assistant Principal for Activities.
Sherrard, Aug. 21, 2024 - During the August school board meeting, Ag Instructor and FFA Advisor Bill Hammes was recognized by the district for his nine years of service to Sherrard schools.
