Dear Sherrard Community,

We know the decision to move away from varsity football for the remainder of this season affects far more than the players on the field.

Friday nights at Sherrard bring people together. Our football players are at the center of it, but so are our band members, cheerleaders, dancers, students, parents, alumni, staff, and community members who fill the stands and make those nights special. We understand what those traditions mean to our community and we don't want to diminish the disappointment people are feeling.

Some things will look different this fall. That doesn't mean they go away.

We will still play football. Our Junior Varsity team will continue to compete, and we hope our community will come out and support these young men as they work to build the future of Sherrard Football.

We will also find ways to preserve the traditions that make the fall special. Our junior cheer clinics will still have opportunities to be part of the season. Our band will still have opportunities to take the field and share the work they have put in. Our cheerleaders, student groups, and other fall activities will continue to be part of the experiences that bring our school and community together.

We may need to be creative. That's okay.

Sherrard has always been at its best when we wrap our arms around our students and support one another. Our football players need that right now, expecially our seniors. So do the many other students and families who look forward to what a Friday night at Sherrard represents.

I hope we use this season as an opportunity to show what our community is really about. Come support our football players. Come watch our band. Cheer for our cheerleaders and the students of all ages. Fill the stands for our volleyball players, soccer players, cross country runners, golfers, and every student representing Sherrard this fall and the seasons to come.

This fall season may look different than we expected, but there is still a lot to celebrate.
