    For Christy Koepke, it’s been a difficult year - since everything has been closed because of the pandemic. But when she heard the news that she would be attending three Sherrard volleyball games in one night (April 6), she cried happy tears of joy and shock.

    Winola Elementary students raised a total of $5900 for the American Heart Association. For surpassing their $5,000 goal - PE Teacher Bev Krueger spent the day following their virtual assembly interacting with students as the Tiger mascot.

    The weather was sunny with a high of 64 degrees, not a cloud in the sky - a perfect compliment to the much-anticipated community event, the Sherrard School District homecoming parade, held last Saturday, March 20. Traditionally, the parade is held in the fall prior to a home football game and in conjunction with a homecoming dance, but due to pandemic guidelines the parade had to be held during the spring, and creative ideas took hold to replace the dance.

    The Sherrard School Board voted to update their “Return to Learn” Plan last Wednesday, Feb. 17. The plan is a document outlining conduct and mitigations the district is implementing to facilitate in-person learning. The district has had the option of five days in-person instruction or full remote learning since school started on Aug. 17, 2020.

    Twenty-four Juniors and Seniors were inducted into the Sherrard NHS (National Honor Society) in August at two ceremonies at Sherrard High School. The Sherrard NHS is celebrating its 60th year, established in 1961. The organization serves the school throughout the year in various ways.

    COVID-19 may have put a halt to… pretty much everything… but midwest produce production can’t be stopped, and that’s one lesson Sherrard FFA students learned from Ag teacher Bill Hammes. Since harvest began in July, the students have brought in 2,306 pounds.
