Sherrard High School honored 17 outstanding student-athletes who have committed to continue their athletic and academic journeys in college. The ceremony recognized their dedication, hard work, and the bright futures that lie ahead.

Guest speaker Mary Hemm, Sherrard’s head volleyball coach and former Clarke University athlete, shared invaluable advice with the athletes:

Discipline will define you. Talent got you here… but at the college level, everyone’s talented. The difference between good and great college athletes comes down to habits.

The question is, ‘How hard are you willing to work to be great? Are you willing to show up early, stay late, get the extra reps in the weight room… the reality is success at this level is earned, not given.'

She emphasized that while athletics can open doors, a strong education provides a lasting foundation for the future:

“The best athletes in the world, no matter the sport, stay coachable… Your coaches and your professors want you to succeed. Their job is to push you, to challenge you, and sometimes to break you down so they can build you back up.”
