The Sherrard community came together to celebrate Tiger pride during this year’s Homecoming Parade, which rolled through town with one of the largest turnouts in recent history.

The Iverson's and their community service endeavors were announced prior to the homecoming football game Friday, Oct. 3.

Leading the procession were Grand Marshals Richard and Nellie Iverson, immediately following the Color Guard. Richard and Nellie have been pillars of the Sherrard community for decades—raising four children who stayed to build their own families here, running a beloved local restaurant, supporting seniors through Meals on Wheels, serving in the Sherrard Lions and Lioness Clubs, and volunteering with the Sherrard Fire Department. Most recently, they founded the Sherrard Area Veterans Memorial Committee, creating a lasting tribute on Main Street to honor local veterans. Their lifetime of service and dedication to the community made them a truly fitting choice to lead this year’s parade.

From there, the streets filled with cheers as local fire trucks, the marching band, cheerleaders, dance team, and a full lineup of student-athletes, school clubs, the FFA, and even the district’s school bus drivers made their way through town. Representatives from local businesses and organizations also joined in — including several area banks, and 7-Eleven attendants handing out surprises for excited children along the route.

Parade organizer, high school special education teacher Vanessa Schulenberg said, “We had a great turnout in terms of participants! It was one of the best-attended parades we’ve had in years.”

A special thank-you goes to the Village of Sherrard for supporting the event and helping ensure a safe, smooth route for all participants.
