Sherrard’s Pep Club is back — and they kicked off their first event with a big win for community spirit. Elementary Night at Sherrard High School Volleyball brought more than 70 Jr. Tigers from every elementary building to cheer on the Tigers as they faced Kewanee.

The evening was full of Tiger pride. Students were introduced by their school, collected autographs from players, and filled the gym with hugs, high fives, and excitement. 

The event wasn’t just about the kids in the stands — it was also about the High School and Junior High Tigers stepping into their roles as leaders. As shared in the pre-game remarks, Elementary Night gave older students the opportunity to show what Tiger Spirit looks like, to be positive role models, and to demonstrate the pride of the Sherrard community.

Sherrard Elementary claimed the attendance trophy with 13% of its student body showing up. On Friday morning, the Tiger mascot proudly delivered the trophy during drop-off. Students crowded around, excitedly interacting with the Tiger while volleyball players, football players, and Pep Club members joined in the celebration.

And this is just the beginning. The Tiger will be back at the home football game on Sept. 5, where fans can expect more school spirit and fundraising activities organized by Pep Club.

Elementary Night proved that Sherrard’s Tiger Spirit is alive and well — from the youngest Jr. Tigers to their high school role models.

“A huge shoutout to all the elementary students who came out to support! Your cheers helped us get the W!” said volleyball coach Mary Hemm.

Freshman beat Kewanee in 2, Sophomores dropped their sets, and Varsity swept the night.

“Tomorrow (Thursday, Sep. 4) we face Orion at home—our big conference rival! Students, come cheer and grab some cookies—let’s pack the house!” said Hemm.
