The Red Cross Club held its annual spring blood drive today, bringing students and staff together to support a lifesaving cause.
Among the volunteers was junior Olivia Szpek, who sees the event as an important opportunity to give back. “For me it’s about getting—not only medical experience—but supporting people who need blood,” Szpek said.
Szpek is currently pursuing her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification through a partnership with the Area Career Center at United Township.
The program also offers dual credit through Black Hawk College, giving her a head start on her medical career.
With plans to become a nurse practitioner, Szpek says events like the blood drive help her stay connected to both her goals and her community.
