Mr. Alex Johnson

I am excited about returning as the Assistant Principal for the 2023-2024 school year. I love the community where I grew up, went to school and currently reside. As an alum of the class of 2004, I look forward to working with all stakeholders and students to continue to make Sherrard School District a great place for all.

As Nelson Mandela said, “Education is the most powerful weapon that can be used to change the world”. No matter the circumstances of any child, they have an opportunity at Sherrard to become successful and be prepared for the next stages of their life. Sherrard offers a perfect complement of small town living with many opportunities for our students.

As the Assistant Principal, it is my goal to ensure that your student has a safe environment to learn each and every day. In addition, we want our students to achieve success both in and out of the classroom.

A few key changes this upcoming school year to achieve our goals would be:

  • Students will be limited in using their cell phones to lunch and between classes
  • Bookbags will need to be kept in students’ lockers during the school day
  • Vaping at school is considered a major infraction of school policy due to the effect it has on the safety and learning environment of our students. Consequences will reflect this.

Please reach out if there is anything I can do to assist your student in his or her success within the Sherrard School District.

  • Alex will be entering his 3rd year back at Sherrard. Additionally, he has taken on the role as Head Varsity Basketball Coach. In his first year as Head Coach, the team was able to accomplish a winning record and play in the regional championship. Two things that had not been done at Sherrard in over a decade. Previous to Sherrard, he worked as an administrator, teacher and coach for the Orion and Kewanee School Districts. His wife, Katie, is also in education. She is employed as a speech professor at Black Hawk College. They reside in Matherville with their 6 children; Jack, Sam, Ruby, Will, Lucy and Josey.
