Class of 2022 Graduation
The school band played “Pomp and Circumstance” arranged by Edward Elgar as graduates walked through a warm breeze onto the track to take their seats. It’s the second year the school held the commencement ceremony outside - and the weather cooperated just as perfectly as it did in 2021.

Sherrard School District retirees were honored at the all-staff breakfast last week.
The following are recognized in alphabetical order: Alan Boucher, Superintendent, Mary Hessman, Secretary and Brian Hutton, Educator.
Congratulations to all! Thank you for the investment of your time, energy, and talents. Our district is better because of you. Take care of yourselves and remember that you will always be a Sherrard Tiger. Best wishes for a prosperous and healthy retirement. -
Junior High students make blankets in hopes they will never be used
May 17, Sherrard, IL - EMT-Firefighter with Matherville Fire Department, Lilah Flickinger, came to Sherrard Junior/Senior high school on Wednesday to receive donated blankets made by Michelle Rolsch’s junior high math class to disburse among the local fire departments.

Sherrard Alum Donates $150,000
A generous $100,000 donation from 2009 Sherrard graduate Ryan Carlson will go toward several programs that directly benefit students at Sherrard School District.

Winola teacher turns class projects into lasting legacy
A project-based learning initiative created a fun way for students to get new books at Winola Elementary.
“They’re going to be really happy they can just get books for a special day… I was a part of that, and it makes me excited,” said Dominic Brown, a fourth grade student at Winola Elementary. -
Crochet Club at Sherrard High School
The drop-in club “Crochet with a counselor” has seen up to 20 students stop by for a lesson in how to crochet. Sophomore Kenzie Jones has helped teach several students, teachers and staff the art.

Career Day at (Winola Elementary or Sherrard Elementary) was a Success
Career Days at the elementary schools were a HUGE hit last week.
Arrangements were made by Winola and Sherrard Elementary School Counselor Rachel Berogan. -

Students Earn Sense of Pride: Collaborate to Help Create Innovation Lab Space
Furniture for the library, turned ‘innovation lab’, has arrived at Sherrard Junior/Senior High - and students had a hand in putting it all together.
Seniors in Tammy Crippen’s Tech 2 English class completed the hands-on project based task to assemble the equipment within two class periods this week. -
BJ Luxmore Blood Drive Effects 111 Lives
“In June of 2012 B.J. gave the ultimate sacrifice and this is just one small way that we can pay tribute to his memory. B.J. gave his life for millions of people and now our students and community members can save lives through a blood donation in his name. We want to ensure that his memory and selflessness live on,” said Special Education Teacher Vanessa Schulenberg.

Pay It Forward - Nourish To Flourish
The Sherrard Nourish To Flourish program is providing a washer and dryer set to schools in Sherrard School District thanks to a sizable anonymous donation to the program in December.

Boraas honored with Star Award from IEA ESP Council

Sherrard and Rockridge FFA host the Mom Friend Project Fundraiser Sunday
The Sherrard FFA and Rockridge FFA chapters, and Rockridge Gray Matters are teaming up for the third annual “The Mom Friend Project”, a suicide prevention and awareness fundraiser this Sunday, April 10, 1-5 p.m. at the Sherrard High School.

Lessons from Olympic Athlete Dan Steele
One Sherrard teacher found a way to bring the winter olympics to the classroom - and show students anything is possible. Sherrard Elementary fourth grade teacher Jackie Kelly invited Sherrard alumni, Olympian and former UNI track and field coach Dan Steele to speak to the fourth grade classes about bobsledding in February - in the midst of the Olympic Games Beijing 2022.

Sherrard Welding Students Finish First
Sherrard welding students take first at the 4th Annual Fillet T-Joint Weld Invitational held on March 16. The event was hosted by Black Hawk College and took place at the Welding and Skilled Trades Center in downtown Kewanee.

Kids Heart Challenge Successful at both Elementary Schools
Sherrard Elementary and Winola Elementary raised a combined total of $12,920.84. Students earned prizes for their fundraising efforts conducted in February and March.

Sherrard school district approves alternative school to begin next year
Sherrard, March 16, 2022 - The Sherrard School Board unanimously approved establishing an alternative school for the 2022-2023 school year for junior high and high school level students.

Elsbury wins Matherville spelling bee
Last Friday, February 25, Matherville Intermediate students battled it out to see who would advance to the Regional Spelling Bee to be held March 19 at Augustana in the Centennial Hall.

Sophomore Brianna Bynum is making a name for herself as the first Sherrard female wrestler earning a spot at the first ever IHSA girls' wrestling state meet at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington last Friday.

The Junior High PE 2022 Winter Olympics wrapped up this week after daily competitions - including Biathlon, Curling, Skeleton, Speed Skating, Ski Jumping and Bobsledding.

Board votes to change district mask mandate
Monday, Feb. 7, 2022 - In an emergency meeting the Sherrard School Board voted 6-1 to replace the district's mask mandate with a strong recommendation for indoor mask use. This mask-optional protocol affects all students and staff members and will be effective immediately.
