Matherville Revives Grandparents Day Breakfast Tradition

Matherville Intermediate celebrated Grandparents Day this morning by hosting a special breakfast for students and their grandparents or someone special in their lives.

The event, coordinated by school counselor Zach Johnson and Principal Jeff Shillinger, brought in around 300 attendees, including students.

“Grandparents are such a big part of our students' lives, so we wanted to give back to them,” said Johnson. “It was great to see so many families coming together—multiple grandparents, both sides. The turnout was more than we expected, but we couldn’t be happier.”

Guests enjoyed donuts, muffins, coffee, and juice, marking the return of this beloved tradition, which hadn’t been held since 2019.

Johnson said that they plan to make this an annual event again, as it was in the past.

Matherville cook, Trisha DeWitt coordinated the breakfast goodies.

High School Helpers

High school volunteers Ava Easley, Nadia Anderson, and Jasmine Morey also helped during the event.
