Crocheted with Care: Student’s Gift Warms Teachers Heart

Brown and Abe

Third grade Sherrard Elementary student Abe Leingang surprised his teacher, Mrs. Brown, with a heartfelt gesture during the home volleyball game last week - a crocheted bracelet he made himself.

Leingang, who had Mrs. Brown as his teacher last year said, “She’s my favorite teacher,” but was hesitant to say so publicly, so as not to offend his new teacher this year. He agreed when Mrs. Brown reassured him, “Teachers understand,” she said.

He recently took up crocheting and learned the skill alongside his mom - when he saw it on a video.

“I wasn’t even expecting to see him there,” Brown shared. “He walked up to me with a smile and said, ‘Here’s a bracelet I crocheted for you.’ The fact that he thought of me and took the time to make something special really touched my heart.”

The thoughtful gesture is a reminder of the lasting connections between teachers and students - and the impact educators have beyond the classroom.
