Stacey Harroun - Teacher Feature January 2021

Stacey Harroun

“I enjoy being able to talk and laugh with the students. Making a connection with them outside of math content is something I really enjoy.”

Stacy Marie Harroun is a 6th grade math teacher in her 6th year at Matherville Intermediate. Previously, she taught for three years at United School District.

Harroun holds a Bachelor of Elementary Education degree from WIU (2010), Masters in Teaching and Leadership from SXU (2016), and is currently working on a 2nd masters in Administration at WIU.

“I was a student teacher at Matherville Intermediate in the spring of 2010, and I fell in love with the building and staff. My first teaching position was at United Junior High School teaching 6th-8th grade ELA. I have always loved math, and when I saw a math position open at Matherville, I applied hoping that I would be able to join the Matherville team again,” said Harroun about why she chose Sherrard School District.

Her and husband - high school sweetheart - Nathan Harroun, and two daughters Evelyn (6) and Ella (3) live in Sherrard with their two boxers Rosco and Lucy. Their hometown is Taylor Ridge.

Stacy’s favorites include:
Animal: Dog
Color: Pink
Food: Tacos
Book: The Selection Series
Movie: Now and Then
Vacation place: Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri

“I love going to the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. This is something that my family has enjoyed doing every year since I was five. It's fun being able to share some of my favorite summer memories with my girls now,” said Harroun.

When she’s not teaching she’s busy taking classes and being a mom. “My girls love crafting. I'm usually helping create the next gluey, sparkly paper/scrap box covered in googly eyes, pipe cleaners, and whatever else my girls think is necessary in their next creation.”

For fun, she loves to go shopping.

Harroun said her favorite part of teaching is talking and laughing with the students, “Making a connection with them outside of math content is something I really enjoy. It's amazing what students can teach you,” she said.

Something her students don’t know about her - she was once in the audience for America's Got Talent in NYC, “Live TV is not as "live" as you would think, but I did get to see my favorite boy band from when I was younger perform... Backstreet Boys.”

Her best advice for life, “Make new friends, try new things, and enjoy all of the little adventures life has to offer.”
