Sherrard's Diehl earns 4-year scholarship

 

Guin Diehl During spanish class, Feb. 28, senior Guin Diehl was surprised with the Chancellor’s Scholarship for four years of tuition and fees to the University of Wisconsin-Platteville. Only 10 were chosen out of almost 400 applicants, according to Chris Kerkenbush, Regional Admission Advisor at University of Wisconsin-Platteville.


“I’m really shocked. I’m so happy right now... really excited,” said Diehl. She plans to double major in math, with an emphasis in high school education, and music.

“I want to be a math teacher, I also want to write music on the side - and if I can, I also want to teach college,” she said.

Kerkenbush said a committee of eight filters the applicants, “We chose based on location, diversity, all around devotion to school, her grades, community service - her essay was the key part.”

“It’s a huge accomplishment. The Chancellor (Dennis J. Shields) reviews all of them… She should be very honored.” She said the scholarship totals around $40,000 over the course of four years.

Diehl's parents are Mike and Jen Diehl of New Windsor, her brother is Mike, Jr.
