Erin DeKeyrel - Teacher Feature May 2021

Erin DeKeyrel

Eighth grade earth science teacher Erin DeKeyrel just finished her first year with Sherrard School District.

“I love the sense of community working in a rural school district offers. My dad and his family went through school in the Sherrard district. It's a great place to be a part of!” Her hometown is Milan.

Her favorite part about teaching.... “I love when something "clicks" for a student. I also love when we are doing something engaging and they don't notice that the end of class snuck up on them!”

DeKeyrel earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology - University of Wisconsin-Platteville and Bachelor of Science in Science Education (Secondary Biological Science) - Western Governors University.

Her and husband - Dillon DeKeyrel live in Reynolds with their blue heeler named Karma, an indoor cat named Gretta, a horse, a small flock of chickens, a herd of cattle and many barn cats.

DeKeyrel’s favorites include:
Animal:  All of them.
Color: Turquoise
Food: Pasta
Book: The Great Gatsby
Movie: The Notebook
Vacation place: Colorado

When she’s not teaching she’s doing chores and, “Remodeling our ‘new to us’ old farm house.”

For fun she enjoys going to concerts, traveling, riding horses, gardening, and spending time with family and friends.

Something unique about her, “I can speak Spanish. I took four years of Spanish in high school and 3.5 years of Spanish in college. My skills are getting rusty, but I have my minor in Spanish from the University of Wisconsin-Platteville.”

Her best advice for life, “Take it day by day, minute by minute. Plan ahead and learn from the past, but focus on the present as much as you can because life goes fast.”
