Rebecca Caudill Reading Program

  •      The Rebecca Caudill Young Readers' Book Award is an annual award given to the author of the book voted most outstanding by students in grades four through eight in participating Illinois schools. The award is named in honor of Rebecca Caudill, a children's writer. She lived and wrote in Urbana, Illinois, for nearly 50 years. The main purpose of the award is to encourage children and young adults to read for personal enjoyment.

Matherville Intermediate students are invited to participate in the program by reading from the annual Master List between August and February of each school year. They must read a minimum of four books in order to be eligible to vote. After the state winner is announced, the library staff honors the participants with a reward activity.
