A generous $100,000 donation from 2009 Sherrard graduate Ryan Carlson will go toward several programs that directly benefit students at Sherrard School District.
The drop-in club “Crochet with a counselor” has seen up to 20 students stop by for a lesson in how to crochet. Sophomore Kenzie Jones has helped teach several students, teachers and staff the art.
“In June of 2012 B.J. gave the ultimate sacrifice and this is just one small way that we can pay tribute to his memory. B.J. gave his life for millions of people and now our students and community members can save lives through a blood donation in his name. We want to ensure that his memory and selflessness live on,” said Special Education Teacher Vanessa Schulenberg
“I do it for them because they’re our future. So to see them succeed is success for all of us, and I love that,” said Teresa Boraas of her role at Sherrard jr./sr. High School working with students in credit recovery.
