English Courses

  • ENGLISH I     
    English I is the first of two required writing intensive courses. This course is designed to improve the students writing, reading comprehension, and oral language skills. A survey of literature styles including the short story, poetry, informational text, drama, and novels will be stressed. Writing is a continuous process as a part of the literature unit, as well as speaking and listening activities.

    ENGLISH II  
    English II is the second of two required writing intensive courses and includes a formal research project. This course is designed to improve the students’ writing, reading comprehension, and oral language skills. A survey of world literature including short stories, poetry, informational text, drama and novels will be addressed.

    ENGLISH III
    In English III the students will rigorously examine traditional American Literature and informational text articles independently. The course will include various forms of writing, speaking skills and test taking skills.

    TECHNICAL ENGLISH AND COMMUNICATION I
    Students will read traditional American Literature and informational text articles. The course will include various forms of writing and speaking skills. This class is designed for students who will attend a two year program, technical program, or military program after high school. The class will focus on career based writings and speeches. The class will also work on problem solving and test taking skills, interviewing and resume building, and requires four hours per semester (8 total hours) of volunteer work in a position at school or in the community.

    ENGLISH IV
    This course is designed to improve and broaden writing and communication skills. Students are presented with a variety of college-level reading assignments, including novels and essays. The writing requirements include numerous formal argumentative and informative essays and papers. Formal oral projects will also be a focus.

    TECHNICAL ENGLISH AND COMMUNICATION II
    This course is designed to improve and broaden writing and communication skills through a variety of formal and informal experiences. Students are presented with a variety of teacher led college-level reading assignments, including novels and essays. The writing requirements include numerous formal argumentative and informative essays and papers. Formal oral projects will also be a focus. This course is a continuation of Technical English and Communication I and will concentrate on those skills practiced in Technical English and Communication I. In this course, debate and public speaking take a forefront to prepare the student for life after high school.
