English Electives

  • CREATIVE WRITING
    The course will offer students the opportunity to develop and improve their technique and individual style in genres such as poetry, short story, drama, essays and other forms of prose.  The emphasis on this course is on writing; however, students may study exemplary representatios and authors to obtain a fuller appreciation of the form and craft. This is an elective course and does not fulfill the English requirement for graduation.

    SPEECH AND DRAMA
    This course will include one quarter of focus primarily on speech and another primarily on drama, recognizing the two topics intersect. This will enable students to develop commiunicatiom skills that can be used in a variety of speaking and drama situations (such as small and large group discussions, reader's theater, delivery of lectures or speeches in front of audiences, stage performances and so on). Course topics my include, but are not limited to research and organizatiom, argumentative style and skillk, effective presentation of one's voice and body, writing for verbal delivery, stylistic choices, visual and presentation skills, analysis and critique, and development of self-confidence. This is an elective course and does not fulfill the English requirement for graduation.l
