Message from Superintendent
Sherrard School District has a long history of excellence and achievement. The community has always valued and supported the schools, and the district is known for its innovation and progressive educational program. Our facilities, technology and infrastructure are top-notch.
The District’s mission is to inspire, empower and prepare. We want every student to possess the skills that are necessary to be successful after graduation. The Sherrard staff works hard to fulfill this mission. We aren’t perfect, but we are making progress and we continually see evidence of improvement.
Our graduates have gone on to have a huge impact in industry, government, non-profit causes, health and human services, education and the arts. We well-up with a great sense of pride and excitement each time we hear a positive story about a graduate. We are grateful for the Sherrard families who support our efforts; we could not accomplish our mission without them.
My wife Sanya and I have been a part of the district for many years. All four of our children have attended Sherrard schools and two of them are Sherrard graduates. We cherish our fond memories of the district and both of us can proudly declare, “It’s great to be a Tiger!”
Upon graduation from college, Alan became an elementary teacher in Des Moines, Iowa. Eight years later, he and his family moved to Forreston, Illinois where he was the principal of two elementary schools. In 1998, Sherrard School District hired Alan to serve as the principal of Coyne Center Elementary School and be the District's curriculum director and transportation director. Alan was hired by the Aledo School District (which eventually became Mercer County School District) in 2006 to be the superintendent. In 2015, he returned to Sherrard School District where he continues to serve as the superintendent.
