Brianna Bynum: First Sherrard female to wrestle at first IHSA All Girls State Series

Sophomore Brianna Bynum is making a name for herself as the first Sherrard female wrestler, earning a spot at the first ever IHSA girls' wrestling state meet at Grossinger Motors Arena in Bloomington last Friday.

Listen in to the interview to get to know Bynum - she talks about why she got into the sport, what it takes to win, and she gives encouragement to other girls to wrestle.

She's went into the competition with the right attitude.

"Even if you're wrestling the person that's ranked first in the state... anything can happen."
You can hear Coach Jeff Garrett at the end - he talks about what it's like having a girl on the team, and his hopes that more will follow in her footsteps.

"She has more heart than some of the guys. She works very, very hard and it shows with her success. I'm very, very proud of her," said Coach Jeff Garrett.

Bynum is a first year wrestler. She finished 2nd at the Peoria girls wrestling sectionals on Feb. 12, followed by a hard fought 6th place at the first ever IHSA All Girls State series on Saturday, Feb. 26.

Two placed at the IHSA State Wrestling Series Feb. .17-19, Walker Anderson took 5th at 220 and Ryder Roelf was top 8 at 170.
